Guide: How to choose the right pump for the job
At Staring, pumps are at the heart of what we do – from the smallest basement sump pumps to large contractor pumps for major infrastructure projects. Choosing the right pump is about more than capacity: it’s about reliability, efficiency and getting the job done properly.
From basement to construction site
- Basement and drainage pumps: Keep your basement dry or empty smaller tanks. Lightweight, energy efficient, and perfect for clean water.
- Grey water pumps: For water with small particles like sand and grit.
- Sewage pumps: For heavy-duty jobs with larger solids, sludge or dirty water.
- Small contractor pumps (e.g. STP2-500, STP2-480DW): Compact, robust and among our bestsellers on construction sites. Designed for high capacity in a short time.

Pump sets – ready to go
Many contractor pumps are available as pump sets – delivered in a tough plastic box with Storz coupling and contractor hose. This makes them easy to transport, handle and set up on site.
Large-scale projects
From basement drainage to mega projects: Staring supplied a giant pump system for the Femern link. (Read more in our dedicated article).
